Okomfo Anokye and the Golden stool
Okomfo Anokye and the Golden stool
Good evening Ghana, today is the 6th March 2013. Breaking news tonight, A golden stool descends from the clear sky, Minister of Education is proud to announce ground breaking findings in recent researchs conducted at the U of G, Lagon and Grand mother’s lead the surge for new online shoppers in Ghana. I am Kofi Gyemfi, reporting with GBC evening news, good evening Ghana. We have some very intriguing news to report tonight. As alluded to in our news highlights our great nation is the scene of strange event today. Our correspondant, Kwebena Ofori, from Kumasi has the report. Kumasi, home to the Ashanti’s and the second largest city in our country witnessed something on a mythical proportion today. Witnesses say they were about their daily bustle/business, today being Friday, it was traditionally a very busy market day. Amongst all the hustle and bustle witnesses say it was about one O’clock when some of them witnessed something bright in the sky not very big but still visible because of its sparkle. Many were at a lost for what it could be, but as it continued in its descent, some believe to have seen what they say was a golden stool. The object which has been confirmed to be indeed a golden stool, is believed to have settled on the palace compound of the chief of Kumasi, Nana Agyeman Antwi. We followed up our report there, on the palace premises. Eye witness accounts of the golden stand true. We did indeed discovered here at the palace of Nana Agyeman Antwi the golden stool. Further talks with the Chief’s spokesman, Okyeame Kofi, sheds new light on our story. The Okyeame acting as the Chief’s mediator tells us that the Chief and his entire palace were in utter shock as well, to see the golden stool descend on the palace grounds. They later found out that the stool had been conjured down from the sky by the high priest, Okomfo Anokye. People at the palace seem to be at a lost, as to what this means or why the priest had done so. We are on the search for response and will be back with answers right after this message.
We are back with the high priest himself, Okomfo Anokye, with more news.
GBC Correspondant, Kwebena Ofori: What is the meaning of all this Mr. Okomfo? How is it even possible? And why did you conjure the golden stool?
Okomfo Anokye: You ask how its possible? You have forgotten, all of Ghana seems to have forgotten. That is why I did it. We have forgotten that before the advent of these holy churches and their missionaries that we were once a great people with our own customs and heritage, and a long one at that. It is to save this heritage and to remind Ghanaians, us a people, of our great warrior and chiefs, and of our great gods who for many years before we turned our backs on them protected and provided for us and still do, till this day despite our great betrayal and neglect. It was them who possessed me, and in their infinite power delivered this great gift to an unworthy people. By this great throne the great gods of our forefather beseech us to open our eyes and keep to our very own traditions. We are a lost people barely recognizing ourselves or our brothers. We have abandoned our own identity and taken pleasure in wearing masks of a different people. Let this miracle and blessing of the golden stool descending from the sky re-instate our faith in the old ones, their abundant wisdom and lets us find ourselves once more.
Well there you have it Ghana, the great mystery of the golden stool in the sky and what it signifies. Have we become too westernized? Do we remember our own stories? The ones am sure all of us heard told by the elders when we were growing up. When was the last time we went to our various villages? When did we last attend the numerous festivals of our tribes? I think the high priest has something here. I personally thank Okomfo Anokye for bringing this issue to our attention and I apologize forehand on behalf of my fellow Ghanaians to the gods and our ancestors whom we have gravely dishonored and offended. From our studio here at GBC I wish you a goodnight and remember that we are a great people and a great nation, Ghana mba!
